This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
Conor McGregor is officially back. Some five years after his last UFC bout, ‘The Notorious’ will step back into the Octagon in just a few weeks’ time.
UFC CEO Dana White took to social media to confirm the news. He timed the announcement exactly to coincide with the ring walk of former heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, on the card of rival promotion MVP MMA.
McGregor last fought at UFC 261 in July 2021, where he lost to Dustin Poirier after breaking his leg. That bout took place at lightweight, but the Irishman’s return will take place in the 170-pound welterweight division.
Conor McGregor’s UFC Comeback Fight
As had been heavily-rumoured, McGregor’s comeback fight will see him take on Max Holloway in a rematch of their August 2013 clash, which McGregor won by unanimous decision.
Now 37 years old, McGregor was scheduled to face Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303 in June 2024. However, he was forced out of the contest by injury, and it was never re-booked.
Now, though, the former two-division world champion will compete once again. He is likely to have a size and strength advantage over Holloway, who was fighting down at featherweight just 18 months ago.
UFC 329 Main Card Confirmed
The fight will headline UFC 329 on July 11th in Las Vegas. In the evening’s co-main event, Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett will also return to action, facing Benoit Saint Denis over three rounds.
While McGregor has a victory over Holloway to his name, much has changed since they last fought. Max has remained constantly active since that fight. Since Conor last fought, Holloway has fought for the featherweight world title twice. He has also won and defended the BMF belt.
Unsurprisingly, Holloway is a sizeable favourite for the bout, but McGregor will be hoping he can roll back the years when the pair meet at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
