Changes from default preferences
[edit]
- 2026-05-11: Logged in to website and looked at Preferences after a few years.
- I’d previously changed skin to Timeless; changed it back to default (Vector 2022). Can’t remember if I’ve previously changed anything else from default.
- Changed signature to link to main as well as this alt account.
- Preferences > Advanced > Enable script-installer
- Install my copyPageContent with script-installer. Huh, that really is easy!
- Edited common.js to change to dev version of copyPageContent. CodeMirror 6 and syntax highlighting on by default 🙂
- 2026-05-01: Settings > App theme > Tables > Expand tables
- 2026-05-11: Can’t paste text that I’ve copied from another browser tab. Is this a bug with Visual Editor, Firefox, or iOS?
- iPadOS 26.4.2
- Firefox 150.2 (iOS)
- Can paste from other apps
- 2026-05-11: Clicking my username in Vector 2022 takes me to newcomer homepage, not userpage → extra step needed
mw:Wikimedia Apps/Team/Future of Editing on the Mobile Apps
- 2026-05-01: Reinstalled the iOS app. Apparently I already had a saved or reading list from previous testing.
- How am I supposed to indent this list in VE? Trying so hard to stick to the defaults and not switch to source editor.
- Change from default: Settings > App theme [A better heading might be “Appearance”] > Tables > Expand tables
Device and version info at app installation time: iPhone 16 Pro, iOS v26.4.2, app v8.0.1.
Preferred languages in iOS settings:
- English – detected by app
- Français – detected by app
- Esperanto
- Deutsch
- Bahasa Indonesia
- Bahasa Melayu – detected by app
2026-05-01: A couple of times now I have published my edit and am then shown a popup asking me what stopped me from publishing my edit 😂
2026-05-01: Seriously, how am I supposed to add a list or change indentation without switching to source editor?
2026-05-11: How do I change my on-wiki preferences?
2026-05-01: On this page, level 4 headings are in a smaller font than body text. iOS text size is set to default.
2026-05-11: Wanted to view Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous)#Seeking input on editing in the mobile apps. Pasting this in the app’s search field took me to search results, not the direct link.
2026-05-01: Expand sections by default.
2026-05-01: View my watchlist instead of/in addition to reading lists.
2026-05-01: Nearby places (I trust WMF enough to enable location permission). I already use OsmAnd with the Wikipedia plugin; making this feature easily accessible to Wikipedia app users will hopefully improve engagement with content.
2026-05-01: Addendum: One consideration that might be relevant for travellers: as a (sort-of) multilingual user I can see articles about nearby places from multiple language Wikipedias on the Explore tab, but the Places tab seems to only show my primary language (I refocused to a couple of tourist-friendly areas to verify this). OTOH I don’t know how to indicate existence of multilingual content on a map view without overcrowding the interface.
