The Gallagher Premiership has been on fire in the Champions Cup, with Bath and Northampton leading the way atop Pools 2 and 4, respectively.

With European competition on hiatus, English clubs return to domestic action for Round 7 of PREM play.

The weekend opens with Leicester vs. Gloucester at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium and concludes with Newcastle vs. Bath at Kingston Park.

While No. 1 Bath and No. 3 Northampton sit atop the PREM table, several other clubs have made strong statements in European competition that are not reflected in the league standings.

No. 5 Bristol, for example, sits in the middle of the Premiership pack but has won both of its Champions Cup matches, collecting nine points — three more than Bath, albeit in a different pool.

2025 Leicester Tigers vs Gloucester Rugby

As teams look to carry European success back into domestic play, the opportunity to close gaps in the standings looms large. Here are three must-watch PREM matches this weekend.

Leicester Tigers vs. Gloucester Rugby — Dec. 19 at 2:45 p.m. ET

Leicester has performed well in PREM play, winning four of its first six matches and sitting fourth in the table. That success has not translated to Europe, however, as the Tigers lost both of their opening competition matches. A return home against a familiar rival could provide a needed reset.

Gloucester sits ninth in the Premiership standings but has found more success in European play. The club opened its Champions Cup campaign with a 34-14 win over Castres, pulling away after a scoreless first half.

This matchup blends Gloucester’s recent European momentum with Leicester’s strong domestic form, setting the stage for a contest between two sides desperate for a result.

Saracens vs. Exeter Chiefs — Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. ET

An intriguing trend has emerged in recent meetings between Saracens and Exeter: home-field advantage has proved decisive. In the last five matchups, Exeter has won at Sandy Park, while Saracens has prevailed at StoneX Stadium.

The teams meet again this weekend on Saracens’ home pitch, raising the question of whether the pattern will continue.

Exeter enters unbeaten in its last five matches, opening Challenge Cup play with a 42-12 win over the Cheetahs before earning a 31-31 draw against Racing 92. Saracens, meanwhile, is 2-3 over its last five. While the home crowd favors Saracens, Exeter’s momentum could tip the balance.

Newcastle Falcons vs. Bath Rugby — Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. ET

No. 10 Newcastle and No. 1 Bath sit at opposite ends of the PREM table, but recent European results suggest a more competitive matchup.

Newcastle has found another gear in competition play, winning both of its European matches so far. Bath, meanwhile, suffered a surprising 45-34 loss to Toulon in its most recent outing.

Although Bath has won its last five matches against Newcastle, this could be an opportune moment for the Falcons. Bath may still be reeling from its European defeat, while Newcastle enters brimming with confidence.
