New Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker revealed the team’s updated scheme heading into the 2026 season following the departure of Matt Eberflus.
“The first thing is we’re gonna be multiple,” Parker told reporters Wednesday. “I think that whenever you form a defensive structure, it’s about the players that you have. So core principles, we’ll be a 3-4 by nature but 4-3 spacing would be appropriate. 4-2-5 in nickel, different front structures, coverages behind it. But I would say being multiple is probably the most important thing about it.”
The Cowboys hired Parker on Jan. 22 after firing Eberflus at the end of the 2025 season. Dallas primarily utilized a 4-3 scheme under its former defensive coordinator.
The Cowboys struggled to stop opposing offenses throughout their 2025 campaign, owning the worst scoring defense in the NFL by giving up 30.1 points per game.
They also amassed just 35 sacks, ranking No. 24 among all teams.
Dallas will look for strong production from the interior of its defensive front under Parker, specifically from defensive tackles Quinnen Williams, Osa Odighizuwa and Kenny Clark. 2025 second-round draft pick Donovan Ezeirauk could also see more opportunities as an edge-rusher in his sophomore season.
As the Cowboys attempt to bounce back from a 7-9-1 finish in 2025, significant changes are coming to their defense.
