If Celtic do decide to sack Wilfried Nancy, they surely must pursue a deal to appoint Kieran McKenna. The Ipswich Town boss was among the frontrunners to replace Brendan Rodgers following his decision to resign in October, while Ange Postecoglou has since been linked with a return.
Described as being ‘world-class’ by journalist Nick Ames, McKenna was seen as an ideal appointment for the Bhoys before they decided to pursue Columbus Crew boss Nancy.
The club were clearly happy with that decision regarding the Frenchman, but McKenna’s CV suggests that he is clearly someone who could make a big impact in Glasgow.
McKenna Is Ready To Lead One Of Britain’s Biggest Clubs
McKenna’s career to date clearly suggests that he’s ready for a role as big as Celtic. Having coached with Manchester United at youth level and then supporting Jose Mourinho, he got his big break as Ipswich boss where he famously guided the club to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Championship and then to the Premier League.
In the top flight, the Tractor Boys put in a really good account of themselves against the odds, playing an attractive brand of football but also having a steely underbelly which made them a difficult prospect to come up against.
After a slow start to life back in the EFL, Ipswich are now sitting fifth in the Championship table and are firmly in the mix to earn promotion back to the Premier League, but the prospect of leading Celtic would surely be an appealing one.
A three-way title charge in Scotland means that the second half of the season is going to be blockbuster and that means that whoever is leading Celtic will face a huge challenge. McKenna has all of the credentials to seamlessly step into the role and get them back to their former glory.
